Promotion [24 Oct 2005|11:24am]

What's everyone up to today? Well I'd just like to say a few words if you don't mind my sayin so;) Lately for the past few nights they've been playing the Carousel soundtrack on my brother's radio station! I listened to it a little, but not the whole thing, my brother did though and he said that they talked about Gordon and Shirley! Ain't that wonderful, talkin' about them two wonderful people though. *sigh* Anyway, I made a community and wasn't sure if I'se alowed to promote here, but it's a Gordon and Shirley community, it's been around for a while but I never got to work on it. Please join though, PLEASE join! I beg of you! *drops down on knees* Well, I hope to see you guys around, you've been kind of quiet, and please keep this community active, I hate when a community or message board dies! I talk too much, I think I'm even annoying myself!

Looking for Ideas [16 Jul 2005|03:42pm]

[ mood | hopeful ]

We are looking for ideas to raise money for Jack's star on the Walk of Fame. I'm not worried about the sum - the Osmond people have raised money for two stars. No doubt we can do it for one. So far, I'm working on a "Star Pride" t-shirt as well as perhaps special star ornaments and paperweights, star pendants (we're deciding if they will be crystal, 14k or sterling), rubber "cause bracelets" and maybe special awards for those who donate over a certain amount. This is just fan-side. As soon as Ryan's schedule lessens, we'll look into auctions and such. But I am looking for more ideas! Please email me if you have heard of any other products or ways to raise the money!

We Did It! [25 Jun 2005|11:35am]

[ mood | ecstatic ]

Ryan called last night to tell me the news: Jack Cassidy has been selected by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to be inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Everyone told me this was an impossible task. But here we are. I'm still stunned. Now we just have to find a way to cover the $15,000 price tag.

The bio submitted for the application is located here: ryancassidy.com/jackbio.html

He is also now on the Theatre Hall of Fame ballot - it is only a matter of time before he is inducted there as well. Getting him on the ballot was the hard part. Now we just wait for his peers to vote him in.

Julie, I hope you don't mind... [31 May 2005|10:07pm]

... you did say that it was okay to promote as long as it was relevant, and considering that this is not only relevant but also something you are a member of, I would go ahead and do a little boosting.

If you haven't already, please consider joining:

It's a really neat little community, and I hope to see you all there!!

Interesting article [25 May 2005|10:22am]

Shirley's just received an honorary degree in fine arts, so here's an interesting article with her thoughts about education and college. As wonderful she would have been as a vet, I'm so glad she got discovered when she did!

I just thought I would introduce myself. My names Kendra, i'm 13, and I live in Maine. I love musicals. And I think Shirley jones is the greatest ever!! I have been in The Music Man, and Oklahoma. That's kind of how I got to know who she was. I have all of her movies. I think she is greatly talented. The movies she's in are wonderful. Well, I love talking to Shirley jone fans, so add me to your friends list or comment in my lj. Whatever. I love singing, also. And acting, if you didn't know. I love the feeling of being on stage. Oh, and not that it has anything to do with Shirley Jones really. But I LOVE cole porter. *sighs* well, i guess that's it!

Vote for Carousel! [03 May 2005|09:03pm]

[ mood | determined ]

Okay, I am aware that the General Election is less than 24 hours away, but let's think about something more fun than Tony Blair vs Michael Howard. For example, 'Carousel' vs 'The Rocky Horror Show.' I think I'm the only British member of this group, so I'd better explain. Every Sunday from 1pm to 2:30pm, on BBC Radio 2, a former musical actress (I think she still does a lot of singing, but I don't know if she acts anymore) presents a radio show dedicated to movie and musical music and over the last few months, she's been running an essential musical poll. This month, 'Carousel' is one of the choices and I'm really surprised at how well it's doing. It seems that there are a lot of people who secretly love it- in fact, it's currently doing better than 'The Rocky Horror Show.' Imagine what an amazing moral victory it would be if 'Carousel' beat it! So please vote!

I got this in the mail today- how cute?! Could someone please make me an icon based on it please?

I went to LA yesterday to see the CinemaScope55 print of Carousel that was just restored.  It was beautiful. Shirley was supposed to be there, but scheduling conflicts in filming prevented her from coming.  We were told that she had to film until 11:00 PM.  What a schedule! ::Sigh::

Though I was disappointed that Shirley couldn't make it there, Susan Luckey did appear and she was adorable. Did anyone know that Carousel was dubbed entirely!?? I didn't. This is my new acquistion of knowledge from Miss Luckey.  She said the cameras were so noisy that you couldn't hear the actors over it, so they had to dub every single line of the movie. I can't imagine that.

I found the clothes and the colors were so vivid compared to watching the DVD. The details were gorgeous though. The fellow that did the remastering said that they were going to try to take the print on tour. So, maybe some day some of you can catch it--if you do, don't miss the chance.

Here's the link for more information about the event and under the cut are two flyers for it.

The saplings are bustin' out with sap... [22 Apr 2005|05:47pm]

[ mood | energetic ]

There's certainly a lot going on at the moment. Shirley's new film, 'Nana's Boy' is apparently going to make 'Elmer Gantry' look tame. By her own admission,
Shirley plays a very racy old grandma, which may upset some fans who are firmly devoted to her Mrs Partridge image (or have no sense of humour...). It's not quintessentially Shirley, but I think it's great that she keeps such an open mind as isn't afraid to take risks... as long as this movie isn't too awful!

I have to break my own 'no profanity rule- sorry!Collapse )

I believe she's now working on a TV movie called 'Hidden Places,' but have no info about it yet.

This summer, Shirley will be playing Cousin Nettie in a stock production of 'Carousel' in Massachussetts. I don't suppose anyone here lives that way? I personally think it's adorable because Nettie's a fabulous role for a more mature actress and what a lot of memories it will bring back! Patrick Cassidy is also going to be reprising his role in 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat' and Shirley is going to be joining him in a tour in the autumn.

Edit: It looks like I've been a little naive about this movie as there seems to be a generally negative reception towards Adam Sandler (I've never actually seen any of his movies), but we shall see...

How I became a Shirley Jones fan... [02 Apr 2005|10:30am]

[ mood | crushed ]

I grew up watching the Partridge Family and knew and loved Shirley Jones then. When Lily and I got together I saw her watch Oklahaoma several times, sometimes even multiple times a day. Although the tunes caught me ear I never actually sat down and watched the movie. It wasn't until I delveloped my friendships with Julie eleganceofmind, and Ginny paularidgeway that I was influenced to finally watch a Shirley movie. I started with Oklahaoma and fell in love with it, then followed with The Music Man and Carousel, the rest is pretty much history. How could you not love her beautiful voice, wonderful movies and of course, what a beauty. My knowledge of Shirley movies isn't the greatest so anything anyone can recommend would be most helpful...:D
